NHL DFS FanDuel and DraftKings Core Plays (October 19)

Connor McDavid (EDM) (C) – $9,200

  • Last time McDavid played, I said lock him in cash games and he ended up scoring a hatty. That’s how good he is and is by for the best in the game. His price is slowly starting to creep up but it’s still Connor McDavid we are talking about. He is up against one of the worst teams in the league today (Anaheim Ducks). Lock for me again and build around him.

Leon Draisaitl (EDM) (C) – $8,800

  • This will be the first time I am adding Leon as my core play this season and just like McDavid, he has been elite so far. Leon has 2 points in each of his first 2 games of the season and although he has yet to score, I can see that change today, especially against the Ducks. Leon is listed as a center but he plays on the same like as McDavid (L1) and the top power play unit. I expect both of these studs to have a multi-point game.

Brent Burns (SJ) (D) – $4,800

  • As expected, Burns played over 27 minutes in his season debut racking up 22.8 FD points. He was priced at $4,600 and today, he’s still way too cheap for a player who plays high minutes. Burns has always been a safe cash game play with a high floor and it seems like that will be the case again this season.

Matt Duchene (NSH) (W) – $3,600

  • If we’re jamming in the two Edmonton studs in McDavid and Draisaitl, we’re going to need some salary relief. Matt Duchene fits my builds perfectly for only 3.6k. Although the matchup against LA isn’t the greatest, the former 3rd overall pick should see 19-21 minutes skating on the Preds top line (L1/PP1).

Connor McDavid (EDM) (C) – $9,200

  • McDavid is my favorite play on both sites and I wouldn’t fade him in cash games. The best player in the league is up against one of the worst teams and even though he is the most expensive on the slate, he can do even more than his price. He is just too elite and it will be fun watching him skate circles around these Ducks defensemen.

Brendan Gallagher (MON) (RW) – $4,200 / Mike Hoffman (MON) (LW) – $4,000

  • These next two players are more salary reliefs than anything. Gallagher and Hoffman will both play on the 3rd line and you could consider playing both in your cash game build but if I were to pick one, it would be Hoffman as he is projected to play on the PP1 unit compared to Gallagher who is on PP2. It will be exciting to watch Hoffman make his Canadiens debut tonight against the San Jose Sharks.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) (C) – $4,200

  • RNH started out the year at $4,900 and after just two games, he is at $4,200 which is just laughable. RNH is still such a gifted offensive player who plays 20+ minutes. He is bound to put up a multi-point night and no better team to do it than against the Ducks. He also plays on the top power play unit with two of the best players in the game (McDavid and Draisaitl).
