NHL DFS FanDuel and Draftkings Core Plays (October 16)

Connor McDavid (EDM) (C) – $9,000

  • The most expensive player on the slate and very well deserves to be. Connor scored 105 points last season in just 56 games. He already scored 2 points in his first game of this season and will look to have another multi-point night against the Calgary Flames. Start your cash game build by locking the best player in the game.

Brent Burns (SJ) (D) – $4,600

  • Just like Dougie Hamilton who was my favorite defensemen last night, Brent always has a high floor which makes him the perfect cash game play. Being 36 years of age, he did regress last season but that doesn’t concern me as he continues to play in the mid to high 20s in minutes.

John Tavares (TOR) (C) – $7,500

  • With Auston Matthews still out, captain John Tavares slides into line 1 and will look to lead his team to a victory against a rebuilding Ottawa Senators. The Toronto Maple Leafs are projected to score the most points on this main slate and I expect Tavares to do some damage tonight.

Mitch Marner (TOR) (W) – $7,700

  • It’s crucial that the Leafs get this win against the Senators tonight as they lost a disappointing upset just two days ago against the same team. Marner has yet to score a goal this year but I feel like that could change today. I just can’t see the Leafs losing twice in a row, especially with Brady Tkachuk sidelined again.

Evan Bouchard (EMD) (D) – $2,700

  • Evan Bouchard is close to min price on DraftKings today which is a major part of my decision. He is averaging close to 19 minutes as a 3rd pairing defensemen. Being drafted 10th overall back in 2018, Evan is a mobile puck moving defensemen who can create chances but most importantly, he gets the puck on net.

Mikko Rantanen (COL) (RW) – $6,900

  • Nathan MacKinnon is still out which makes me look at the Colorado Avalanche lineups. Mikko is an elite player and at this price, playing on the top line + pp1, this is an easy play for me.

Tyson Jost (COL) (C) – $2,500

  • The absence of a superstar like MacKinnon will give other players a chance to showcase what they got. Tyson is projected to play on the second line as well as the top power play unit. A player that is min price with that upside is just too hard to pass up on. Even without MacKinnon in the lineup, the Avalanche still have one of the most deadly power play units.

Kris Letang (PIT) (D) – $5,600

  • I’m going to add Kris Letang to my core plays on DraftKings. In his first two games of the season, he has notched 2 assist in each game for a total of 4 points. Although he won’t keep up his 2 points per game streak, I expect his minutes to stay the same at around 27. DFS Crunch projects Letang to get 12.32 DK points and I can see him going over this projection.
